The Sidney Nolan Trust and Informality are delighted to announce, a virtual exhibition, showing the work of Paris based, Australian artist Anthony White. White’s work will be
displayed digitally throughout The Rodd, a 17th-century property and outbuildings in Presteigne, Wales where renowned Australian artist, Sidney Nolan resided for 10 years.
The online exhibition will support Anthony White’s recent award of the Creative Arts Fellowship which has been postponed due to the current international travel restrictions. White will use the award to research Sidney Nolan’s writings, sketches and notes held in the collection at the National Library of Australia, relating to the creation of the Eureka Stockade mural commissioned by the Reserve Bank of Australia in 1966. The research would inform and inspire White in the ideation and development of a
new body of work that he will create whilst undertaking a residency at The Rodd, Nolan’s working environment, in 2021.
Andrew Craven, the Director of the Sidney Nolan Trust, explains that the Trust has a particular interest in working with established and emerging Australian artists who recognise many of Sidney’s influences, in particular, the Australian landscape, indigenous culture and folklore. The Trust also works with artists who follow in Sidney’s steps with a diverse oeuvre in style, materials and subject.

Using The Rodd, Sidney’s former home, as the gallery, exhibiting Anthony White’s exciting and thought-provoking work is a perfect union. As with Sidney, Anthony’s work is often based on rigorous research from which themes and ideas arise.”
Anthony White shares that “The Nolan archive offers me the opportunity to reflect on an artist who was similarly drawn to painting notions of Australian national identity and who continued to do so during his working life in Europe. Nolan’s work represents his assertions on nationalism and national identity, and themes relating to civil-disobedience and anti-colonialism these thematic concerns relate to my recent practice.”
The exhibition will run from 21st May until 25th June and announces a partnership between Informality and the Sidney Nolan Trust. Informality is a recently established gallery that has built a reputation for supporting contemporary Australian artists in the UK and since its opening, 6 months ago, has exhibited off-site exhibitions including the first showing of renowned Australian sculptor Jamie North, whose work was also
exhibited in the 2016 Sydney Biennale.
A portion of the sale proceeds from this exhibition will be contributed towards the
Sidney Nolan Trust.
