Fred Sorrell
Fred Sorrell (born 1984, London) studied at Falmouth School of Art (2004-8). The Artist’s practice is an inquiry into the intersection between reality and imagination. Sorrell engages with ideas around mindfulness and perception, exploring themes of stillness, meditation and somatic experience. Focussing on how visual sense reverberates in the body, he uses formal abstraction to convey the feeling of colour in nature. While they are not representations of visual phenomena, this is the raw material from which the painting can be constructed and a new image can emerge.
Recent solo exhibitions include ‘Ember’, Parafin Gallery, London (2022), ‘Long Tide’, Parafin Gallery, London (2020), and ‘Between Sea and Sky’, Saturation Point, London (2019). He has participated in numerous group exhibitions including Hestercombe Gallery, Kristin Hjellegjerde Gallery, London, Royal Standard, Liverpool, Twelve Around One, and Cob Gallery, London.
